Work seems like play when best friends decide to put their entrepreneurial ideas together and create an absolute visual and aesthetic delight. Same is the case with closest friends and partners, Maneka Jain and Tanya Sayal who are the co-curators for the Brand Kalakaari. Initially they had a Herculean task ahead of them, to revolutionize Indian wear to suit the modern woman. Heavy sessions of brainstorming, hardwork and a lot of collections later, today we see Kalakaari as a well sought after contemporary Indian wear brand.
Two or three pieces from their collection are a staple that every woman needs in her wardrobe. Kalakaari mostly deals in pure organic fabrics such as cotton, silk and it's variations, organza and mulmul. The brand is known for their Gotta Patti work, Jaali gotta and fine woven textured detailing. Their classic look is a pure cotton straight cut Kurta with a really comfortable pair of palazzos and a contrasting raw silk or chanderi silk heavy dupatta with zari work to brighten the outfit. Apart from this Kalakaari creates a lot of dhoti sets with quirky jackets that look extremely stylish and are very comfortable to wear.
We love how they render their dupattas with utmost design details, with weaving intricate patterns like ambees (raw mango), indulging in good quality zari work and adding tassels to their hemlines. Kalakaari's dupattas are enough to layer and brighten the simplest of kurta-churidaar/salwaar sets. The brand's range of the iconic cotton shararas will instantly transport you to the Mughal era. Simple and plain colour blocked sharara and dupatta sets with Gotta Patti detailing is both dressy and extremely classy. With such good quality and extensive variety we bet you're going to have problems letting go of any pieces while shopping from Kalakaari!
Shop from them at TPPI BIG BANG on August 19'2017 at Ashoka Hotel, New Delhi.
